Greetings, Aloha and Ha`ouli Makahiki Hou (Happy New Year),
Welcome to our brand new website, as designed by the uber web geniuses over at www.lava.net… This is my first post and I will put a disclaimer up now… my punctuation and grammer will probably suck on here cuz I’m too lazy to go back and proof read what I’m typing (end disclaimer).
Again, welcome everyone! Our two contributions to the Royal Hawaiian Band’s Christmas CD, “Do you hear what I hear” with the Mayor of Honolulu, Mufi H., and “Christmas time is here” will also be on our own PALI Christmas CD, probably for next year, and our 3rd actual release (4th if you count the Japan only “Best of PALI”) A Tribute was done and is now in stores everywhere. From what I hear, it’s doing pretty good and is a testament of the impact that the artists represented on the CD-had on listeners everywhere.
Q&A
I’ve had a number of questions emailed to me over the past couple of months and especially over the past couple of weeks as we’ve done some promotion on TV and through word of mouth, and especially thanks to Caroline Julian & Marvin Buenconsejo at KHNL News 8 and Mahealani Richardson and Ben G. over at KITV 4 for allowing us to perform on their morning news shows at zero dark thirty in the morning (heehee). Also, HUGE props to Mikey G. for coming in at 3:30am and doing our sound for the live shows… anyhoo, back on track:
1. What’s TRIBUTE about? What’s next? from Jarred and Leilani H.
Howzit J and L!
TRIBUTE is a collection of songs from some of the artists that defined the ‘Golden Age’ of Contemporary music here in Hawai`i. Artists like C&K, Kalapana, Summer, Country Comfort, The Peter Moon Band and Keola & Kapono Beamer are represented here on the CD-2 tracks from most of the groups and 1 from the Beamer’s collection of songs.
What makes the CD, IMHO, is the fact we were blessed to have a number of the original artists come back to the studio and record ‘guest’ parts with us. Henry Kapono (C&K), Malani Bilyeu, DJ Pratt (Kalapana), Charles Recaido (Summer), Randy Lorenzo (Peter Moon Band, Country Comfort). Unfortunately, we couldn’t get in contact with either of the Beamers, but was extremely honored to have ‘the’ Cyril Pahinui on slack key duties for the song “Only Good Times.”
As for What’s Next? Vegas baby!!! whoops, sorry.. off the subject. Um, we’re going to be doing lotsa promo appearances and live stuff. There’s talk of a mini tour in April of this year as well as some mainland gigs toward the summer time. The next CD will be a contemporary Hawaiian one which we’ll probably start around Sep. or so. Thanks for asking
2. Love the new site, why the change? Melanie K.
Aloha Melanie…
TRIBUTE was a departure from our first two CDs, and is the first ‘all contemporary’ album that we’ve ever recorded. We figured that with the new CD, we should change the theme of the website to reflect that as well. Besides, the older version was up for two years now
FYI, there will be updates to the site…. more mp3s, some live video stuff from us and a totally new gallery.
3. Where can we see you live? Lani Y.
Aloha Lani… we’ll be updating the performances page in the next couple of weeks. In Jan., we’ll be at the Hawai`i Theatre for the 2007 Narcissus Queen Pageant, and latter part of the month back at the Waikiki Marriott. We normally do a once-a-month gig there. Now that the CDs are done, we’ll be re-establishing a home base soon.
4. How come you don’t do Jawaiian stuff, or the `ukulele stuff from the 1st CD? Kaipo S.
Wazzzzup Kaipo..
There are sooo many groups that do GREAT Jawaiian and Reggae stuff, and more ‘Island Jams’ kinda stuff already, we figured concentrate on the music that’s more second nature to us. I LOVE the music of Ten Feet (Windward Skies RULEZ), Koauka, Katchafire.. to name a few. As for the `ukulele stuff, good question-we gotta work that stuff back into our set. Just gotta go and get an `ukulele now
More later.. cheers and thanks for reading
